Gulf Cryo’s carbon dioxide (CO2) expansion program is well on the way with the commissioning of four hubs across the Middle East, located in Dubai, Kuwait, Dammam and Amman. Each of these hubs has the rolling stock and storage capacity necessary to be a major distribution point in their region, servicing the requirements of the carbonated beverage industry.
The industry has very stringent quality and reliability standards so each hub has to have the necessary quality standards in order to work with food and beverage products. Gulf Cryo is proud to announce that three of the hubs (with fourth on the way) have met the quality standards necessary to qualify for ISO 22000 certification and more importantly the coveted food handling FSSC certification which is mandatory when dealing with global beverage giants. As part of this certification, Gulf Cryo has installed equipment and instruments to analyse and certify CO2 to be compliant with international bottling standards as well as providing dedicated storage, handling and distribution equipment for food grade CO2.
Furthermore, Gulf Cryo is now building two large scale CO2 production facilities in Kuwait due this year, and Saudi Arabia due next year. When those plants are completed, in addition to the distribution hubs already in place, Gulf Cryo will rightfully boast the accolade of being the largest manufacturer and supplier of food grade CO2 in the region.
To support the distribution of CO2 at the hubs and further strengthen distribution efficiency, 15 new semi-trailers will be added to the already significant and established fleet of CO2 tankers.
The growth prospects of this initiative are very positive. The tactical location of the hubs and their logistical capability, together with the supporting facilities, will allow Gulf Cryo to work with clients beyond the GCC region. As well as servicing the carbonated beverage sector, Gulf Cryo is also exploring opportunities of new CO2 applications such as waste water and food freezing.
